How to test your BIG ideas worthiness?

All of us, invariably getting those flashy ideas while looking for something else in our daily routines. But problem is where to take it next level. Most of people even won't discuss this with their peer. The one they are willing to discuss (close friends and relatives,rarely in a position to appreciate the context, and giving further shapes)

Good to see there are some institutional mechanisms to do that.One I found was

Then there is a book, which I yet to read (those who read can pass on wothiness of the book on idea)

But I feel, open your mouth to your peers, professional in that area, without telling exact details, but telling the way you arrived the conclding point, related work/trials in that area. Afterall, you will get another idea from the one you working on, even if you lose it. 3M's paste it notes, American Express's Traveller Cheques and MTR's famous products are just conversion of flashy ideas when detailing with some other projects.
